On the iPad and the iPhone...

Steve Jobs was good today. As good as he is on most of the presentations.

I like the device overall although I'm not sure if I will be buying one - mainly due to the reasons that I will be covering later in this post - when it hits the markets in the next 2-3 months. But, I think that they pretty much nailed the price for this device - both for the hardware and for the 3G!

Going back to the first statement, I maintain that he was "good" and not "awesome". If you are one of those people who have been following his keynotes, you would have noticed his uncanny ability to hide the shortcomings during these presentations (Read: Cut/Copy/Paste, Push Notifications etc.,).

So when I started following his keynote live on engadget.com, I was really really hoping to hear about these things...

1. Background apps: This is by far the biggest thing that the iPhone / iPad / iTouch needs. It really sucks not being able to stream from Pandora when playing a game. Or something as mundane as surfing the web when you are on a Skype call.

2. Flash Support - Not the light. Yes, we NEED flash. It is anything bigger than what Apple / Steve Jobs could possibly imagine. You better get that darn thing working on these devices.

3. A camera: Well people are not going to take pictures of mountains with the iPad but what I want is is a front facing camera: A must have on these kind of devices. With a lot of meetings happening over Video Conferencing in this digital era, it is only imperative that anyone who needs the versatility of a tablet would want to have this feature.

4. Use it as a hard drive / File Manager : It is cool that you can get iWork on these, but libraries? Sync it with your Computer? You gotta be kidding me. Give us a way to manage our own files.

5. Usb Port and Card Reader: Again, if these two are included on the iPad, it will open up a totally new world of possibilities for this device. Imaging a photographer taking pictures and quickly sliding the card into his iPad so that his client can review it! It would be awesome, wouldn't it?

6. Other minor things (for me at least) like Revamping the push notifications (will the iPad do push at all?), New OS, etc.,

But then, the first five itself were show stoppers. No thanks, Mr Jobs. I will get mine when you fix these.

Cheers!

Funnel Cakes and The Ferris Wheel

...Completes the Carnival mood, Ain't it?

So I gave my attendance at the Indiana State Fair at Indianapolis on Saturday and this was one the few keepers from the shoot.

I really missed having a wider lens in the show.

Now that it has been a few months without getting a new “accessory” for my camera, I’m really starting to lose my patience. I think that I will pull the trigger (or should I say, shutter :P) on a 100 mm macro or a Sigma 10-22. But I don’t know if I can justify that purchase… Yet..

Rants apart,  as usual – Comments and Criticism welcome…
